21 Day Fix – Purple Container – Measurement equivalent of 1 cup (8 oz)
Fruit, it’s the new sweet. Feel grateful that this meal plan encourages eating fruit! My husband follows plans like LCHF/Atkins and refuses to eat fruit. I feel sorry for him!
I can sympathize with non-fruit eaters. That was me a year ago. Strawberries and bananas were were the only fruits that I really enjoyed. I could not stand apples, could barely eat grapes and found citrus vile it it wasn’t juiced. Because of this meal plan, I am reformed, praise the Lord.
It took some experimenting and finding quality produce was key. There is a big difference from a mealy, soft apple to one that is crisp, tart and a little sweet. My favorite varieties are anything Golden or Crisp. I spent some time last fall at the orchards picking and tasting different varieties. I love apples as a snack and I feel so much more satisfied.
So how do you fill those 21 Day Fix meal plan Purple container requirements throughout the day?
Start with breakfast. Again, I knock out at least 1 sometimes 2 servings in my Shakeology (usually 1/2 banana, frozen, and frozen or fresh berries). Shakeology is a key component in this meal plan. If you’re not drinking it, you should try it for a month and see. Vanilla Shakeology enables you to make a variety of fruit flavored smoothies. Stock up on frozen fruit if you blend smoothies or make your own ice cream. Fixate has a wonderful recipe for strawberry banana ice cream. I love adding chopped apple or pears to a bowl of steel cut oats with cinnamon. Or add a bunch of grapes as a side to your egg dish.
This time of year clementines are abundant. Grab a bag and get peeling. They are sweet, easy to peel, no pith like oranges, and go wonderfully on salads or as a grab and go snack.
Don’t forget that salsa can be counted as a Purple. Add a cup to chicken breast or top in on top of scrambled eggs.
When we discuss the Blue container, we’ll talk about how to add flavors and texture to Purple. Experiment! The end result of how much you like fruit may surprise you, it did for me!
